This year my 28 year old sister in law gets to celebrate her birthday for the 7th time! It’s kind of a big deal for her. For most of us a leap year just means an extra day in February which doesn’t sound to exciting, but what if we made a point of making the extra day extra special? So often these days we are pressed for time, trying to fit in as much as we can with the days we have. This year we actually have an extra day so let’s make the most of it. Grab your family and start brain storming about what fun things you can do to make February 29th extra special.
Let it snow. If you happen to have snow where you live (amazingly enough we have next to no snow this year in Saskatchewan) you could take advantage of that by heading out for some fun snow themed activities like snow shoeing, sledding or building some snow people. One of our favourite winter activities, that luckily doesn’t require snow, is skating. Molly loves to go every single chance she gets so I have a feeling this will be high on our list of things to do on our extra day!
Try something new! One of the things on our radar is the new “air park” in our city. It’s basically 12,000 square feet of trampolines. How fun does that sound? There’s also an indoor water park we haven’t visited yet that sounds like a blast. A mini faux tropical getaway sounds just perfect for keeping those winter blahs at bay.
Resurrect and old favourite. When’s the last time you put on some stylish rental shoes and went bowling? The wonderful thing about bowling is that, with the help of gutter bumpers, it’s something the entire family can get up and have fun with. If you want something a little more exciting maybe a round of laser tag is in order. That’s actually something we have yet to do as a family but our daughter is now old enough to give it a try. I have a feeling she will love it!
Get up and think outside. There are plenty of outdoor activities that you might not immediately think of doing in the winter but can be a ton of fun this time of year. Bird watching is an awesome winter activity and you will often be able to spot some feathered friends that you might not see in the warmer months. Just last week we were lucky enough to get an amazing view of a beautiful Great Horned Owl in our own back yard! Geocaching can also be a fun winter adventure for the family. You should be able to find information online about winter friendly caches near you.
It’s probably pretty obvious from these suggestions that we are a family that likes to be active. With a five year old in the house I’m not sure we have much of a choice anyways! She is a little bundle of energy so keeping her (and us) moving is essential. Even though we love being active I have to admit that every once in a while I wake up the next morning realize I may have overdone it just a bit. But most of the time it’s nothing a few good stretches and a little help from RUB A535™ can’t handle.
I’ve used RUB A535™ for years but just recently tried the Extra Strength Heating Cream. I’ve been really impressed with how well it works and love that it has less scent too. It’s a staple for mom and dad in the medicine cabinet!
So this Leap Year Day get up, get out and get moving! Make this once in every four year’s day extra special. There’s no better time than boring old February to try something new and make some family memories!
