I’m busy baking up some goodies to drop off at daycare next week for the staff to enjoy in the staff room. Although none of the staff have nut allergies (that I’m aware of) there is a child in the centre that does have a peanut allergy so just to be safe I’m making sure none of the goodies I send have nuts in them. This Sesame Seed cookie is a perfect alternative. The toasted sesame seeds give these cookies a chewy, nutty flavour without actual nuts.

  • 1 1/4 cups of butter or margarine
  • 2 cups of brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp of vanilla
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1/4 tsp of salt
  • 1/2 tsp of baking powder
  • 1 cup of toasted sesame seeds


  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together.
  3. Mix in the egg and vanilla
  4. Mix in the remaining ingredients - salt, flours, baking powder and the sesame seeds.
  5. Drop by the teaspoon onto a baking sheet lined with parchment.
  6. Bake for about 10 minutes or until the edges start to brown.
  7. Cool on a wire wrack.
