I cannot tell you how happy I am that it is grilling season again! Well the truth is we grill all year long, which often means shovelling our way to the bbq, but it’s just not quite the same when you are wearing a parka. Being able to actually stay outside and enjoy cooking on the grill is wonderful.
I’m going to tell you right now that I don’t consider myself to be a huge fan of chicken wings. In fact I have cooked them exactly one time. Tonight. When I think of wings I think of greasy bar food and my gall bladder tells me to run the other way. But my husband loves wings and I figured that grilling them on the BBQ would surely take care of the grease factor. I knew that if I was going to make wings I would not be doing “hot wings”. Something sweet and tangy sounded more appealing and more “bbq” if that makes sense. It was time to bring out the classic North American BBQ essential – ketchup. That took care of the tangy part. And for the sweet part – Blue Dragon Sweet Chilli Dipping Sauce. This is a match made in heaven. For someone who doesn’t really care for wings I have to tell you that as soon as they hit the grill the smell, and that amazing color reeled me in. Of course I also made sure I picked out some nice plump, meaty wings and not those skimpy things they serve at the pub. These wings were tender and juicy and packed full of flavour. I never thought I would say it but tonight I ate, and loved, chicken wings!
Sweet Chilli BBQ Wings
- 10-12 chicken wings
- 1 bottle of Blue Dragon Sweet Chilli Dipping Sauce
- 1/2 cup of ketchup
- 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
Mix the Sweet Chilli Dipping Sauce, ketchup, soy sauce and lemon juice together in a small bowl.
Put the wing in a plastic container and pour the sauce over them. Put the lid (or plastic wrap) over the container and shake well to completely cover the wings.
Put in the fridge and let marinate all day or over night.
Heat the grill to medium.
I put my wings on skewers with some large pieces of red bell peppers but you can also just place them on the grill individually. Cook, turning often, until cooked through (about 20 minutes). Be sure to keep an eye on them and do turn them often as the sweet cause will cause them to burn easily.
Serve with greek yogurt or your favourite wing dipping sauce.
