Good Vibrations – #PhilipsSonicare FlexCare Platinum

It’s not you.  It’s me.

I’ve been using an electric toothbrush for years.  I absolutely HATE having my teeth cleaned at the dentist. Some people actually find that to be a pleasant experience, for some it’s just a mild annoyance – for me it is a mild form of torture.  So I use whatever tools I can to make the time in the chair as short and painless as possible. And, I apologize to my hygienist, who just so happens to be my mother in law – it’s not you it’s me.

My new love affair.

So, yes I have an electric toothbrush.  And I like it.  A lot. But I recently was given a new brush to test out and my affection for the electric toothbrush has grown. Immensely. The new Philips Sonicare Flexcare Platinum (now that’s a mouth full – pun intended) brings a whole new level of toothbrush love.

Philips Sonicare

What’s different about the Flexcare Platinum?  Well first there is the brush itself.

Philips Sonicare

The extra long bristles reach between teeth to help remove significantly more plaque than your average manual toothbrush.  And the built in Pressure Sensor automatically alerts you when you’re brushing too hard.  This might not be something you think about but brushing too hard can damage tooth enamel and be hard on your gums. With the Flexcare Platinum, if you are applying too much pressure you will hear and feel a slight change in the vibration of  the brush to alert you to take it easy.

There are also 3 modes  to help you meet your brushing needs:

  • Clean for removing plaque
  • White to remove surface stains
  • GumCare which combines 2 minutes of clean and 1 minute of gentle gum massage

And because we all have different preferences and tolerances when it comes to our teeth there are also 3 intensity levels – low, medium and high.

Ok I’m going to talk about my favorite feature now – the UV Head Sanitizer

It’s something else we might not think about a lot but toothbrushes can be a great place to store bacteria and germs.  If you use a manual toothbrush it’s not too costly or inconvenient to toss the old one, especially after you’ve been sick, and pick up a new brush.  But heads for electric toothbrushes are more expensive and not always as convenient to replace.  The Flexcare Platinum is equipped with a nifty UV head sanitizer that helps kill ups to 99% of bacteria and viruses (E.coli, HSVIA, H.A). It’s built right into the charger and is quick and easy to use.

Speaking of chargers – the Flexcare Platinum comes with two.  There is the standard counter top one pictured above and a compact travel charger that isn’t much bigger than your smart phone charger.  It also comes with a handy travel case and caps for the heads.  And if you happen to be travelling and forget to pack the charger no need to worry, the battery lasts up to 3 weeks between charges!

What a feeling.

Besides all the nifty new features of this electric toothbrush I can tell you it just feels good.  It has a nice weight and feels comfortable in your hand while brushing and I love the feel of it on my teeth as well.  I really, really like that I can vary the level of intensity.  And my teeth feel awesome. It’s like walking out of the office after a cleaning but without the pain. Of course, even the best toothbrush can’t replace regular check ups and cleanings but they can make your visits quicker and easier!

Although I have used an electric toothbrush for years, and have been pleased with the results that an electric toothbrush provides, I’m really happy to step up my game with this new and improved Sonicare brush.  It just has features that my old brush doesn’t and even though I love my mother in law I’d rather spend time with her when she isn’t hacking away in my mouth with sharp appliances…

Do you use an electric toothbrush? Have you found that it makes your visits to the dentist (especially for cleanings) easier?
