Every Day Lessons

In our house we talk a lot about sharing.  About giving.  About the fact that we are blessed to have the things we have, including our health. We talk about the young girl in India that we sponsor and how her life is different than our but how we are still the same.  When we find ourselves with just too much stuff, or the little one has outgrown some toys or clothing we bundle them up and give them to community living.  When we are grocery shopping and we find good deals we get one for us and one for the foodbank. A few months ago we were sent on a mission to shop specifically for the foodbank.  This was a HUGE deal for Molly, as you can tell by the floor length gown…

We teach our daughter that caring about others, even people we don’t know, is just what we do. It’s our responsibility.  I love watching this all, gradually, sink in for her. At three years old she really is starting to comprehend that she is a lucky, lucky girl and that helping others (and especially other kids in her case) feels good.  And at her age that  is what it should be about.  She should feel good, feel proud about wanting to help others.  At some point, when she’s older, it will become more than that.  She will understand that helping is not just about how it makes you feel but more about what it does for other people. I’m already a very proud mom of a thoughtful, generous little girl.

Kinder Really Does Make it a Joy to Share

Although we focus on giving and caring all year long, this time of year, with the holidays approaching, it seems even more important than ever to teach and practice that lesson.  There are so many people, so many families that especially struggle this time of year.  Wanting to give your kids a special Christmas is something every parent wants.  And it’s not all about gifts.  It’s about sitting down for a nice meal, about spending quality time with family. We have that.  Not everybody does.

For the second year, Kinder has partnered with the Children’s Miracle Network  in the “A Joy to Share” program. The program is just one on the ways that Kinder helps to bring joy to families during the holiday season.  And the best part is that YOU can help with this mission!

To help Kinder with it’s goal to share the joy just head over to the Kinder Canada Facebook Page and design your own holiday greeting card for kids in a Children’s Miracle Network member hospital. For every card that is made Kinder will donate $1 to the Children’s Miracle Network!  Kinder’s goal is to raise $25,000 to support this cause. So far, with the help of people just like you and me, they have raised $18,000.  So let’s keep those cards coming and help make the holidays a little brighter for some kids that could really use our help!

Not sure exactly what the Children’s Miracle Network is?

We touch the lives of more children and their families than any other children’s charity. Whether they suffer from common childhood afflictions like asthma and broken bones, or fight bigger challenges like birth defects or cancer, the children’s hospitals supported by Children’s Miracle Network provide comfort, treatment and hope to millions of sick kids each year.

This is an organization that actually means quite a bit to me.  Currently, in Saskatchewan we do not have a children’s hospital at all. This is a big deal.  Children, and especially kids who need to spend a lot of time in a hospital, deserve to be in a setting that is made for them. Thankfully, that is going to change here.  A Children’s Hospital is scheduled to be up and running by 2016!  With our constantly growing population in Saskatchewan it can’t come quick enough. Organizations like the Children’s Miracle Network are essential to our goals of getting the hospital up and running.

Don’t pass up this opportunity to get your little ones involved in an opportunity to give back.  It’s easy, it’s fun and it is supporting a really great cause!

  2. What a great way to get kids involved in kids helping kids. They can help to design a card which is fun and then share it which is fun, and all the fun equals funds to Children's Miracle Network which is even more fun. Great brand initiative.

  3. It is incredible what Kinder Canada is doing! The Children's Miracle network is so important and all the good they do for those families! Love how you get your daughter involved. It is such an important lesson for our children to learn – to give to others not expecting anything in return.
