Five Things Friday – Homemade School Lunches/Snacks

So last week’s Five Things Friday highlighted some of our current favorite store bought lunch and snack helpers so I thought this week I thought would feature some of Molly’s homemade favorites.

1.  Banana Muffins

oatmeal banana muffins

Packed full of bananas, oatmeal and flax seed, these muffins are a tasty and reasonably healthy morning or after school snack. You can fine the recipe here.

2.  Homemade Fruit Roll Ups

Molly isn’t actually a huge fan of the super sweet fruit roll ups from the store but she really enjoys our homemade version. You can find my recipe for these sweet (but not too sweet) treats over at Moms and Munchkins.

3.  Hard Boiled Eggs

It really doesn’t get any easier than this but man hard boiled eggs are the best! Molly loves them in her lunch and so do I. Packed full of protein, they are great fuel for the day. And bonus, they come in their own biodegradable packaging.

4.  Raspberries and Chocolate Chips

healthy school snacks

Another really simple snack that has always been one of my daughter’s favorites. Just get some fresh raspberries and pop a chocolate chip in the middle. That’s it. They are also really tasty with white chocolate chips.

5.  DYI Mini Pizzas

These are so much fun. I just use a round cookie cutter to make a couple of “pizza crusts” out of pita or flat bread (the Dempsters Whole Grain Pitas are our favorite), grate a little cheese and fill a small squeeze bottle with pizza sauce. I posted this picture a couple of weeks ago and a lot of people asked where I got the little squeeze bottle. I picked it up (in a three pack) at Walmart recently. I found it in the section with lunch containers, bottles, etc. If your kiddo likes other things on their pizza of course you can throw them in too. Molly is a cheese pizza kind of girl.

I’d love to hear your school lunch favorites. I need all the inspiration I can get!

  1. Lovin the lil pizza idea! Will be looking for that squeeze bottle.

  2. I'm out of jam, bread and "peanut butter" right now so I've had to come up with some creative lunches for The Kids. I've been sending tuna stuffed in pasta shells and they've been a hit. Thanks for these great ideas.

  3. Okay – these are seriously the best ideas EVER!!! I was just complaining to myself that my daughter's school lunches have been on repeat for the last couple months and I needed a change! Thanks so much for linking up with us. Love these options, and I'm FOR SURE going to bookmark and snag all of these great ideas 🙂
