Well July is almost over which means we are smack dab in the middle of summer. I don’t know about you but our family has already managed to make some pretty great summer memories. But we aren’t done! When you live in Saskatchewan you take every opportunity you can to get up, get outside and savor every last drop of summer.
One of the best ways to take advantage of summer is to have a summer bucket list. It can be a challenge to keep kids active and entertained all summer long but having a list to check off is a great way to keep them busy. Saskatchewan in motion has created this awesome Summer Bucket List that is free to download!
Inside the Summer Bucket List you will find some awesome ideas to help fight summer boredom and get the whole family outside and active. It is full of activities and links to get you in motion. Here’s just a few of the items on the list that caught my eye:
- Hold a giant neighborhood game of Twister (instructions included)
- Go on a nature hunt with a walking bingo card
- Plan your own summer day camp
- Camp in your own backyard
- Get hooked on birding
There are a ton of other great ideas in the book so there are sure to be some ideas that fit your family! At the end of the book there is even a handy page for you to write down your list, whether it consists of ideas from the book, your own, or a combination – write them down and get out and start checking them off!
Being an active family we have our own list and have been very busy this summer checking them off. Here are a few items on our own bucket list:
Treasure Hunting (check)
Scavenger Hunt (check)
Exploring local wild life (check)
Kite flying (check)
Actually this was an unexpected adventure that I got to check off the list for me. I was travelling in northern Saskatchewan for work and had the opportunity to try ziplining. My family wasn’t with me so this is something we still need to check off their list (that’s me on the left by the way).
As you can see we’ve put quite a dent in our summer bucket list but we still have a few items to check off. One of those items is geocaching. We love treasure hunting, exploring and technology is geocaching is a natural fit for my family. With the help of this awesome Garmin GPS we can’t wait to get started and see where it takes us!
