Granny’s Poultry Slow Cooker Turkey Roast & A Giveaway! (CAN 03/20 MB, SK, AB)

Granny’s Poultry Slow Cooker Turkey Roast & A Giveaway! (CAN 03/20 MB, SK, AB)

Like most moms I love my slow cooker – although to be honest I loved my slow cooker long before I became a mother. The convenience of putting ingredients in a pot and coming home to a cooked meal just can’t be beat. And the smell. When you come home from a long day of work or family activities and walk in to the delicious smell of whatever fabulous meal that’s been cooking all day. That is the best!

To me slow cooker meals are as easy and convenient as take out or delivery but much more affordable and definitely more healthy and nutritious than most take out meals. And once in a while you find a product that brings home cooking and convenience to a whole new level. When I was asked if I was interested in trying out and writing about Granny’s Poultry Slow Cooker Turkey Roast  (which are now available at Sobeys stores across Western Canada) I was more than happy to. First off, Granny’s Poultry is a Canadian company situated right next door in Manitoba. If you aren’t familiar with Granny’s Poultry Cooperative I highly recommend you visit their website and do a little reading. More and more, consumers are educating themselves about where their food comes from and Granny’s not only makes it easy for you to understand exactly where their poultry come from but they also make it easy for you to feel good about where it comes from.

Now, lets get back to the cooking! I headed out to Sobeys and picked up a Granny’s Slow Cooker Seasoned, Boneless Turkey Roast with Cornbread Stuffing.

Grannys Slow Cooker Turkey

How often do you have turkey at home? We do ground turkey on a fairly regular basis but otherwise turkey is generally reserved for big family gatherings and holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. With Granny’s Slow Cooker Turkey Roast it’s really easy to enjoy that “special” turkey meal anytime of the year, without the stress or mess.

It literally only takes a couple of minutes to get the roast in the slow cooker and cooking away. You just take it out the packaging (no need to thaw), pour a half cup of water over it, sprinkle with the enclosed seasoning, put the lid on and walk away.

The roast will cook, on low, in about 5 1/2 hours. You can cook it a little quicker if desired by just turning up the slow cooker a bit. Like any other meat it’s always best to use a meat thermometer to ensure it’s cooked thoroughly. Your thermometer should read 170 F (77 C) when the roast is done.

I love the combination of white and dark meat in this roast. It’s juicy and flavourful and not fatty at all. And the corn bread stuffing is the icing on the cake. It has a great texture and is seasoned just right. Of course if you aren’t a stuffing fan you can also pick up a Granny’s Slow Cooker Turkey Roast without stuffing as well.

With a couple of sides it’s so easy to serve up a complete, healthy, delicious meal. In our house a turkey meal just isn’t complete without mashed potatoes and peas!

The stuffed turkey roast easily fed our family of three with enough left over for lunch the next day. This is a product that will definitely be on my shopping list again. Not only is it convenient and tasty but I feel really good about serving poultry to my family. High in protein, low in fat and sodium and loaded with other good things like niacin and Vitamin B6, poultry is always a healthy choice. These roasts are also a great option if you enjoy a gluten free diet.

  1. I cooked a Turkey dinner last at Christmas, though I find turkeys are great on the BBQ or smoker, and a great way to feed a crowd if you're trying to save money. Everyone loves it and the price is right.
