These cute little Valentine Pretzels are a great project to get your kids in the kitchen. I mean, chocolate and sprinkles, it just doesn’t get any better than that does it? Since there is no cooking or measuring (once you melt the chocolate) this food craft allows kids to easily get creative and the sweet and salty creations are pretty tasty too.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag of mini pretzels
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips
  • 1 cup of white chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil (or shortening)
  • various sprinkles for decorating

Directions:

Place the chocolate chips in a microwave proof bowl and heat for 30 seconds. Stir and heat in 30 second intervals until melted and smooth.

Do the same with the white chocolate chips but add the coconut oil (or shortening) as the white chocolate chips tend to not melt to the same consistency as the chocolate chips. I find then a little thicker and harder to dip the pretzels in. The coconut oil also adds a wonderful light coconut flavour.

Dip half (or as much as you want) of the pretzel into the chocolate and decorate with sprinkles. I like to keep something on hand to poke the chocolate through the holes in the pretzels if it starts to thicken up a bit. A chopstick works perfectly.

Set aside and let the chocolate set and harden.  Store in an airtight container.
