My kid watches TV. There I said it. And I don’t feel bad about it. The fact that she watches TV is not as important as what she watches and how much she watches. When I think back to some of the shows I watched as a kid compared to the options my daughter has – well it’s night and day. In my day quality programming for kids was pretty much limited to shows like Sesame Street, Mr. Dress Up and the Friendly Giant. All great shows but there wasn’t much in the way of variety. Today there are TONs of choices for the little ones. Not all of them get my seal of approval but there are a good number that do.
Have you heard of the new Kidoodle TV? I first tried it out several months ago (with their 14 day free trial) and have been using it ever since. Kidoodle.TV is an online streaming video service filled with kid friendly content. You can stream from your computer or get the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
But it’s not just another streaming video service. Kidoodle.TV has some awesome features that you just can’t get elsewhere:
Kidoodle is already an ad free safe environment for your little ones but you can also customize the viewing experience for your kids. You can create up to 5 separate profiles to match the needs of your family
Within each profile you can decide what sort of shows your little one gets access to. You can customize by age and/or add or remove programs all together.
Access to the video is restricted by a parent controlled access code.
You can set time limits (or not if you prefer) to help balance the amount of screen time your family gets.
So you have all of these cool features that make Kidoodle.TV safe and parent controlled but what about the content? That is actually one of the best parts. Kidoodle.TV is loaded with great shows! I have my daughter’s profile set to her age level and she has a lot of great options – Bo On the Go (a newly discovered favorite), Zoo Babies, Caillou, Animal Mechanicals – just to name a few. There are many, many other great programs to pick from for all age groups.
I love that I can block certain programming too. For example, I have My Little Pony: The Original Series accessible to her but have blocked the newer Friendship is Magic series. That one is just a little too “busy” for my anxiety prone daughter. And the best part is she doesn’t even know it’s an option so there is no begging me to let her watch it!
The time restriction feature is a real bonus as well. I love it for when it’s getting close to bedtime. Molly loves to watch a show before bed (another reason I love being able to block fast paced shows) and with the time limits in place when it’s over – well it’s just over. No begging to watch a few more minutes. When it stops playing that’s it.
We have Kidoodle.TV loaded on my iPad and on my iPhone. The mobility is nice. We recently went on holidays and although we couldn’t use the streaming video on the plane it was awesome to have at the hotel that had very limited tv options. And when you have a child with anxiety routine is essential. Little things, like being able to watch her favorite TV show before bed, can be a life saver!
Want to try Kidoodle.TV yourself? You can try it out for free with their 14 day trial period. And, I love this, there is no credit card required to try it out.
