How much does mommy love you?

Soooo much!

How much does daddy love you?

Soooo much!

How much do you love mommy and daddy?

Soooo much!

This is a conversation we have with our two year old daughter just about every day.  Yesterday was no exception.  We had just finished our rounds of “Soooo much” when my little girl looked at me and said “Mommy does your mommy love you so much?  And does your daddy love you so much?”  This completely caught me off guard.  I have not really spoken to either of my parents for three years.  They have met their granddaughter once, when we was seven weeks old, at a wedding that we all happen to be at.  Do they love me so much?  No, I don’t think that they do.  Did I tell my daughter that?  Absolutely not.  I just smiled (while fighting back tears) and said “Yes, dear my mommy and daddy love me so much too.”

I don’t want her to even have a grain of doubt that I will love her always.  I will never, ever not love this amazing child, even when she is no longer a child.  I cannot for the life of me imagine a world that I could not love her.  So, then I have to ask myself again – do my parents still love me?  Of course I can’t get into their heads so it’s impossible for me to say, with certainty, that they don’t.  However, I do know for sure that they have lead me to believe they no longer have any love for me in their hearts and really, when it comes down to it, that is the important thing.  So, I promise myself and my little girl that she will always know that I love her soooo much!
